Do for sale by owners (FSBO’s) really get the best deal? If you didn’t accept the first offer, could you have earned more for your home? We’ve had a few situations where I’ve thought about these questions.

Many times our listings receive bids over the initial asking price. For instance, one of our homes priced around $250,000 received $25,000 more than the listing price. I’ve seen this happen, where homes receive 10% above the asking price.

Let’s say you plan to sell a $250,000 property. You hire an average listing agent and compensate them with a 6% commission. At the end of the transaction after commission, you walk away with $230,000. Perhaps, if you sell your home for $250,000 in a FSBO sale, you’ll likely collect that entire amount for yourself.
